Lectures are super dry and painful to sit through. As long as you read the glossary's and other material he posts on UR Courses you'll be fine. Sets quizzes to 'highest grade possible' so you only need to worry about the midterms and finals. Make sure you watch the movies he posts at the very least, knowing the plots are important for exams.

Oh, Philippe. What a wonderful man. His lectures are at times boring, but he really knows his stuff. Honestly I just love to watch his facial expressions. What a mystical professor. A tough grader when it comes to exams, but not so much that you hate him for it. He also has a photographic memory so he will know if you skip class and where you sit.

Although I found the class to be very difficult, Philippe was always willing to give timely and constructive feedback. His lectures can be boring, but he always tires to crack a joke. Good prof, bad class.

Lectures are dry for sure, but he pulls through with little nuggets of subtle humour. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he explains a lot of the key concepts in the lectures with examples. I didn't find the textbook to be very useful, and anything that is tested on is discussed in class anyway. Make sure to check the Film 100 website for slide notes.

Worst prof I have ever taken. I dont see what everyone else is talking about. He is such an idiot! The laughing stock of the film department. His classes are NOT worth it, and theyre a complete waste of time. If you want to take a film 100 class, dont take his class. Find another prof or dont take it at all!!!

Philippe is a solid prof. He was soft spoken and not always very organized but he definitely knows what he's talking about! Very smart guy who is willing to help you any way he can. The first test is trickier than the second, but he gives 3 online quizzes that you can retake until you get 100% so it balances out. Overall, I'm glad I took his class!

Definitely a bit too quiet, but a very considerate and concise prof. Very soft spoken, but has subtle humor that is hilarious. Very interesting class to take from him.

The only reason you would ever take a class from this guy is if you need to take a required class, and he was the only one who taught it. He is like a human representation of ambien. If you do take a class from him bring a pillow.

Phillipe is softspoken but very smart. Presents both sides of arguments. Likes subtle jokes. Good online notes. Sensible homework, mostly responses to textbook readings. Excellent film choices from many genres, including psycho-drama, western, sci-fi, comedy, and mystery. I loved him, but he will bore you if you are not interested in the material.

You think you are doing well, then get marks back and realize either he can't teach, or you don't know what your doing. SO boring. Avoid if at all possible. He is brilliant though. Too bad he plays favorites and doesn't take criticism well.

I found he was a great prof. Dry sense of humour. First exam is harder than second one, so make sure to study definitions and notes that are given online. You may think this is a bird class cause it's film, but you need to actually study to get a good grade! Easy free 15% for online quizes...that you can retake till you get %100. Good class!

I have no idea what everyone is talking about. This prof is trash. He explains simple concepts in convoluted ways, the class is so boring it could qualify as actual torture, and the films he picks are crap. Stay far away from this class, I'd prefer to be clubbed to death over taking this class again.

Excellent prof! He loves what he teaches and makes everything crystal clear. His tests are mostly based on the WebCT content, so if you go over that, you'll be fine. He makes references to the textbook on the exams, but most of the time that info is on WebCT as well. Exams are easy if you listen to lectures and do the reading.

He's a nice guy and his complete mastery of of the subject matter is crazy. He is willing to help and explains things well. However this class is not easy, film is not a joke with this man. However if you go to class and study you will do fine. Ask for help if you need it. Its not a GPA booster if you put no effort in I'll tell ya that.
