Had this guy in 1993 and he was absolutely the worst professor I had in my UBC years. He was very arrogant and he failed at least 25 to 40% of the class. Nothing he lectured on was on tests or at least he appeared to not emphasize what he was going to cover on MT and finals. Best advice would be to find another Prof if you can! Good Luck People!!

Dr. Comisarow is a brilliant researcher, but this didn't translate into a brilliant class. I had to teach myself everything in the course. His teaching consisted of underlining key terms in his prewritten notes. He was nice and approachable outside of class. However, I was LOST by the end and on the final.

Not a good professor; does not explain things well, refers you to the textbook when you ask for help. Do not take his class if you can help it.

Had him for chem 233 as well. I can't say I was excited he was teaching 2 lectures for 302, but I gave him a chance since it's different material. I would have to say...NOTHING HAS CHANGED. he is the same person that gives useless notes and underlines everything with his trusty RED PEN.

It's been 4 years since I took organic chem and I still have memories (or nightmares) of this guy. My GPA during that term dropped b/c of him. I'm appalled that he is still teaching chem. Besides being a bad teacher he was very arrogant and disrespectful of students. UBC should consider hiring better teachers for core bio program courses.

He is the reason why ppl will change career paths. Bad teachers like him will cause students to want to drop Chem right away. Though I was intersted in this course, his horrible notes (which he tells you highlight almost every single thing) makes you NOT want to study. Horrible attitude, just gives you an answer that makes you feel dumb.

Remember to bring a red pen to class to highlight every word in your note package! That's all you will do in that class. Luckily I only had this BAD prof for half of the term, the other half (organic) was taught by David Dolphin who actually teaches..... stay away from comisarow!

Nice enough guy. Don't really learn anything in lectures though. Reading the text and his packaged notes is probably all thats needed to pass the class. Going to the lectures is a waste of time as you can read his notes on your own and don't need him to read them for you which is about all that goes on in the lectures.

Never EVER take a class from this prof. Absolute garbage, and even spends ridiculous amounts of time on material that's not part of the curriculum. If you get stuck with him, just go to another section and spare yourself the fail mark at the end.

Organic Chem is a hard course to begin with. This prof: Useless. If you want to pass this course (and aren't a chem wiz/ don't want to learn from the text, which isn't always so great either) Do NOT stay in this man's section. I had no knowledge when this class ended, just a bitter urge to hit him on the head.

Someone forgot to tell this guy 123 has little or nothing to do with dipole-dipole interactions, ionic bonds, dipole moments etc...THAT WAS 121!!!! He spends so much time on useless stuff.

100% as bad as they say he is. If you end up in this class get notes from or go to another section. This man is completely unhelpful and loves to go "mmmm" without teaching any useful chemistry. He is unclear and his notes are useless. His lectures are self-indulgent lovefests where he tells you how great his teaching is when it's just not.

Hes a nice prof and tries to answer questions but doesnt usually answer them without confusing you more. He reads his note package and doesnt bother actually explaining much. His way of "teaching" is frustrating. You can get by by reading the text book and doing practice problems, no point in going to class at all...you'll just fall asleep.

He's cranky, rude, and almost completely deaf. He made a package of notes that are scattered with typos and forced us to buy it so we can sit in class and underline every third word. If you want to waste $8, spend three hours a week being snarled at, and fail the exams, Comisarow is the man for you!

Basically what everyone said...very very bad prof. His notes are actually not that bad but you should do the readings before and then the notes make sense. Lectures are useless because all you do is sit and underline a couple of words. He seems to be deaf or atleast have very bad hearing. Btw, i HATE it when he says, "hmmmmm".
