This was not an easy course. If you want to get an A/A+ you have to work hard for it. Know the textbook in and out, DO NOT skip his slides because they are very important and you need to go to class to understand what he wants from you and to make sense of the lecture slides. He drags on, the slides are boring so have coffee if you want to follow

Admire his passion for the work but I could not understand a word he said. Exams were extremely hard and grading were awful. Sorry. Avoid him

I picked this class based on the comments on this website, but they were inaccurate. His class is not easy, his tests were unfair and tested on useless material. I got the highest mark on the final exam and finished with an A after studying my ass off, but not a single person got an A+ on the final because it was so hard. I would avoid this guy.

Exams were okay - he's very hard to understand because he talks very quickly. Was most of the time late to class, but class attendance isn't mandatory so yeah. Do well on the exams and papers and you'l be fine!!!!

Great class!! He's clear and logical. He's got a dry sense of humor and uses lots of sarcasm. The text M/C are super easy (practice with the Q-bank from the textbook site) but his lecture M/C are pretty tricky. Probably my easiest A+ at York. Follow the assignment marking sheet word for word and you'll get at least an A. take good notes!

I thought social psych would be boring but he actually made it quite interesting. tests were fair. TA was picky though. I would love to take another course with him

Social Psychology could have been a lot better if someone else was teaching it. While he tried to add tidbits of humour to it, his approaches were clearly outdated and tiring. Dr. Lay is rough around the edges and far from approachable, and with almost 100 multiple choice questions per test, his tests can be quite draining.

He isn't very good personally. His lectures are cluttered and all over the place. The book is much more interesting than he can ever hope to be. Look for another prof for social psych unless you are really good with assignments and with obscure lecture questions on tests. Attendance is necessary for a high grade on tests.

I really liked this prof and the class. At first, the assigments seemed intimidating but they are not that hard. His tests were easy, i got over 80 on both w/ not that much effort. The multiple choice on the test are long, but only because he gives you all this information, he really wants you to do well in the class. The TA's ok too.

Easy assignments, easy tests, funny guy. Go to the TA for help as that is the person who marks the work. I recommend that people should take this class, he genuinely wants people to do well! As others have stressed, drink coffee before his lectures as they do run quite long in duration.

He is rather hard to comprehend sometimes and his words/ideas are often ddicult to decipher; apparently he has hearing difficulties. I am a very visual learner so my number 1 complaint with this prof. is that he puts up an overhead for only 30 secs after which he snatches it away and everyone is left darn frustrated. He also said he was going to se

Lots of examples, and references to tests. Gives mini prep-tests which are very helpful. Assignments are very clear, straightforward and easy. Just follow instructions exactly. TA is much more approachable than prof. Prof. Clay seems a little standoffish.

the exams are good, mixture of lectures and book. he gives "examples" of wot to expect in the exams, and they all showed up in the exams.i thought the classes were interesting, he's really sarcastic and most of the people missed his jokes. just get coffee before the lecture and you'll be fine.

Good Lord! Time to put this one out to pasture. Uses 3 hours of lecture to explain 30 minutes of studies. That was a brutal way to spend a class. Sometimes he's difficult to approach because he is quite rude and snobby. Could have been a better class if it was taught by someone else.

He definately needs to retire, I think he is very knowledgeable but rather forgetful, he'll be right in the middle of an important topic, then trails off. I knows his theories but his method over 95 multiple choice questions are rather boring, be careful you may fall asleep.

Very interesting lectures in the beginning, but tended to get dry near the end of term. A lot of class participation/involvement, which keeps it interesting. Very fair tests!! Interesting materials and studies. This man knows everything there is to know about social psyc.
