Bernie did show professional execution and guidance to students in my previous courses, but he was not suitable for being a mentor in the field of MIST. Overall, he was pretty good, and the final open-book exam saved many people.

it was really hard to listen to him, he has poor presentations in PP, but actually, he really tries to make his students have good marks. he allowed our class to redo the midterm to have a better mark, he has easy assignments and all his quizzes you can find on the internet. final was open access and almost all theory questions were from quizzes.

Wouldn't reccomend as a MIST teacher although I've had him for other courses and he was ok. definitley an approachable guy whoh means well but he is pretty disorganized and it's hard to know what to expect from his quizzes and tests and difficult to communicate with outside of class. Also doesn't consider time constraints when designing his tests..

Comment:
He is good with other subjects, like if it is theory. Bad as teacher for MIST. Why - The syllabus is simple, the objectives are simple. The EXCEL and ACCESS practice from exams or assignments are hard to relate with the finals. This depletes the ego and mental energy in exams and all focus is lost. Do not know whether this is a departmental thing.

This was by far the worst prof I've ever had. He NEVER marks your work! Made the final exam worth a high percentage because he didn't give us enough assignments. Yet, when he gives us assignments, he NEVER marks them! Highly recommend not taking this class with Bernie. You'd be better off learning from a rock.

Bernie is a great guy who I think I would prefer out of a school setting. He is very unorganized and scatter brained. The material we learnt on excel was all over the place and he didn't have an understanding of how to teach it. He time managed ineffectively so class time would go over the time limit. I wouldn't want to take him for an upper level

Goes out of his required responsibility to make the subject relevant and interesting, has a clever ranking system, and accepts student responsibility. Cool thing is that he has this competitiveness/strictness that his students must gain the essentials of what he is teaching and should have market-ready job skills. Gives free data analysis class.

He made the class fairly interesting considering it is pretty dry material. Did not attend lectures very often and stayed up to date by doing Moodle quizzes, do not skip the excel/lab class time. He will help you get an A on those assignments.

Bernie is a great public speaker and a nice guy. Only problem is his class was disorganized and the class sucked, but it was not entirely his fault. The curriculum was just rushed and he did not end up teaching us that much.

Bernie is a really great public speaker, respectful teacher. But his class was awful, we weren't taught any of the textbook work in class you have to quizzes on the chapters on your own time plus extra projects including excel, word and powerpoint. Too much work for one class- and weren't even taught anything by Bernie. Might as well take it online

Bernie is a cool guy and genuinely cares about the success of his students, both in class and in life. I did find him to be somewhat disorganized, though. It almost felt like he was making up what to teach the class on the fly. I didn't learn much in class, but I think it was the fault of the curriculum, not Bernie. He is a safe recommendation.

Bernie's solid. His passion for Excel is contagious and I have learned so many applicable skills and cool tricks from his classes. He's an Excel Jedi so go with it. Some of the lectures and online example are contradictory so be prepared to seek clarification. Don't expect to have anything marked until the end of the semester which is frustrating.

Bernie's a really funny and smart prof. He does move fast but will slow down as long as someone speaks up. Do not buy the textbooks, attend the classes and do the homework. He takes forever to mark things, but he's aware of this and is reasonable. If you need an extension on something, ASK! As I said, he's reasonable and will likely grant it!

Bernie has left me in suspense for over a week regarding my midterm mark. 27/41 students got their marks last Wednesday, the rest of us have been waiting 10 days (for christ sake) to see our midterm marks. Very bush league, and I am surprised people haven't complained already. Awesome lecturer, funny, helpful, but pick it up with the markingjesus.

Comment:
Bernie has few strengths and many weaknesses. He is very good at excel which causes him to move incredibly fast in lecture. He gives no clear direction and he is terrible at marking assignments. It is the last day of classes and he has marked 5/10 of the assignments that were handed in. Avoid him if you are not strong at excel.

This is one of the those profs that you wish could teach your entire degree. A truly great man that made the best of a no outlined course. Show up for class & be engaged and you will walk your self down a minimum B-. Thanks Bernie for a great class!
